The associate pastor is called as a servant leader, is commissioned to proclaim Christ as Lord and Saviour and serves the church staff as a pastor with the general or special ministry depending on the size and/or special needs of the particular congregation(s).
The term associate pastor in this booklet is understood to mean associate to the senior pastor with a specific role(s) of ministry in general or special areas. The term associate pastor does not refer to the intern. The term assistant pastor is used with reference to the intern pastor.
1. With reference to the church:
A. Fulfill the basic opportunities and responsibilities listed under the duties of the pastor outlined on the preceding pages in harmony with mutually agreed and understood planning with the senior pastor
B. In addition to performing ministry the associate pastor equips and facilitates church members for their own ministry in conjunction with mutual planning of the pastoral staff
2. With reference to the senior pastor:
A. Cooperate with the senior pastor in service and leadership roles in the church
B. Serve in general or special areas of ministry as outlined by the senior pastor
The associate pastor is responsible to the senior pastor, the conference officers and ultimately to the Conference Executive Committee.
