What Champions Are Made Of

You probably recognize this face - it's Gabby Douglas, an Olympic champion gymnast.   What did it take for her to become a champion?  In her own words, "Hard days are the best because that's where champions are made."

Gabby is proof that when you work hard, at the end there is something special.

How do you make it through the hard days?

  1. Resiliency.  Sometimes people fall, but then they get back up.
  2. Vision.  When you are preparing, keep your eye on the time when you'll be "there."
  3. Endurance.  When you don't have anything else to give you keep on going.

This is important for us, not just Olympic competitors.  When God called us to be His people, he asked us to be special.  He called us saints!

I believe that when we are connected to Jesus, we are truly champions.

The reason Gabby was able to become a champion was that she had these three things.  The same applies to us today.

Here are some texts that show how the need for resiliency, vision, and endurance apply to us today as Christians.

  1. Resiliency: 2 Corinthians 4:8-11
  2. Vision: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
  3. Endurance: Hebrews 12:1-2, Phllipians 4:13

What about today's struggles?  God doesn't promise to take them away from us.  He promises to be right there with us, to give us strength.  With His help we can make it across the finish line!
