Job Summary

The Vacation Bible School director is selected by the nominating committee, and works with the Sabbath School council and pastor in planning for, promoting, directing and coordinating the Vacation Bible School and seeing that a follow-up is carried out.

Job Duties

1. The director begins early in the year to recruit and organize the VBS staff consisting of the following:

A. Assistant director

B. Division leaders and teachers

(1) Kindergarten (ages 5 & 6)

(2) Primary (ages 7,8,9)

(3) Juniors (ages 10-15)

C. Music leader and pianist

D. Craft leader and assistants

E. Recreation leader

F. Publicity chairperson

G. Transportation chairperson

H Refreshment chairperson

I. Follow-up leader

J. Photographer K Babysitter

L. Others as needed

2. Contact the conference Sabbath School director for manuals, supplies and counsel

3. Arrange for location and facilities to hold the VBS (often the church or school, but not always)

4. Plan for and urge all division and craft leaders and teachers to attend the conference sponsored VBS workshop

5. Work with each division leader to plan a well coordinated program on the most advantageous dates

6. Plan an interesting graduation ceremony at a time when parents may attend

7. Work with the publicity chairperson for effective awareness

8. Start early and be thoroughly familiar with the manuals

9. Plan with the VBS staff and the Sabbath School council a practical and effective follow-up program

Job Relationships

The Vacation Bible School director is a member of the Sabbath School council and is responsible to the church board
